Wholemeal Kefir Pancakes with Blueberry Sauce

Make Biona's delicious gut loving wholemeal pancakes this Valentine's Day. Top with Organic Kefir and blueberry sauce, sweetened with organic Agave Syrup. This recipe is perfect to devour with your loved one on Valentines Day morning. Or at any time for that matter!

Wholemeal Kefir Pancakes with Blueberry Sauce

  • 150 g Wholemeal flour

  • 1 ½ tbsp Organic Coconut Sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • 150 g kefir

  • 1 tbsp Organic olive oil

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  • 300 g frozen blueberries

  • 2 tbsp Biona Organic agave nectar

  • 50 ml water

  • 2 tsp cornflour

  • Biona organic coconut oil for frying.


  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.

  2. In a large glass measuring cup or small bowl, whisk together kefir, olive oil, egg , and vanilla extract.

  3. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until combined. Don't over mix.

  4. Heat a frying pan over a medium heat. Add a little coconut oil. Pour about 1/4 of a cup of pancake batter onto the pan, spacing out the pancakes a few inches from each other. When the pancakes start to bubble up, flip and cook until pancakes are lightly browned.

  5. To make the blueberry sauce: Cook blueberries, agave, water, and cornflour on medium heat for 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Serve warm over pancakes with more kefir.
