This vegan jackfruit taco recipe is a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional meat tacos. Jackfruit is being used more and more as a meat substitute. This recipe it is cooked with spices and seasonings for a flavorful and savory filling. Topped with fresh veggies and served in warm tortillas, these tacos are perfect for a quick and easy weeknight dinner. Or even for when you have friends over they make a tasty and easy meal to serve. This recipe should make approximately 8-10 small tacos, which would suffice to serve 2-3 people as a main dish or 4-5 people as a side dish.

  • 1 can of Biona young green jackfruit in water or brine

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1/2 onion, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 8-10 small tortillas

  • Toppings: chopped cilantro, sliced avocado, diced tomato, shredded cabbage


  1. Drain and rinse the jackfruit, then pat it dry with a paper towel. Remove any seeds or tough parts and shred the jackfruit with a fork.

  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

  4. Add the jackfruit, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper, and stir to combine.

  5. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jackfruit is tender and slightly browned.

  6. Remove from heat and squeeze lime juice over the jackfruit.

  7. Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or on a griddle.

  8. To assemble the tacos, add some jackfruit to each tortilla and top with cilantro, avocado, tomato, and cabbage.

  9. Serve and enjoy!
