Do you eat Oily Fish three times a week?

Let's be honest for a moment, when was the last time you managed to eat oily fish three times in a single week? If you are shaking your head, you are certainly not alone. While we all know that a plate of salmon or mackerel is good for us, the reality of busy schedules, family taste preferences, especially with the little ones. Simple convenience often means our diet falls short of the ideal.

Are you struggling with stiff joints that take a while to loosen up in the morning? Do you feel like your concentration is drifting, or perhaps your skin feels dry and lacklustre no matter how much water you drink? These can often be gentle nudges from your body that it is craving something essential.

For many of our customers at Natural Health Store, the missing piece of the puzzle is often Omega-3. These small fats play a massive role in how you feel every single day, yet because your body cannot produce them on their own, you are entirely dependent on our diet or supplements to get them.

Let's take a look at Eskimo-3 Omega 3 fish oils, this is one brand that I trust and often recommend.

Essential Fatty Acids- what does this mean?

You will often hear the term Essential Fatty Acids thrown around, but what does that actually mean? In the world of nutrition, "essential" means your body cannot make it. You have to eat it.

The two main essential fatty acids in the Omega-3 family are EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Think of them as the building blocks for your cells.

EPA is generally associated with heart health and inflammation-it helps cool down the body.

DHA is critical for structure it's a major component of your brain and your retinas (eyes).

Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, and trout are nature's richest sources of these nutrients. However, rely purely on diet is becoming increasingly difficult. To get the therapeutic levels needed to really notice a difference in joint mobility or mental sharpness, you would need to consume significant amounts of high-quality fish very frequently.

This is where a high quality supplement becomes a practical, effective tool in your wellness toolkit.

Why I Recommend Eskimo-3

When you walk into  Natural Health Store, you will see several options on the shelf, but the one I find myself recommending time and time again is Eskimo-3.

Why? Because when it comes to fish oils, the quality varies a lot.

Eskimo-3 has built a reputation on purity, freshness, and sustainability. Their oil is derived from clean, deep-sea, cold-water fish. But what really matters is what happens after the catch. They use advanced purification processes to remove environmental contaminants like heavy metals and pesticides. In today's world, where our oceans are sadly not as clean as they used to be, knowing your supplement is rigorously purified gives you immense peace of mind.

The Freshness Factor: No Fishy Burps

I have to address the elephant in the room. Several customers have told me that they stopped taking fish oil because they couldn't stand the fishy burps afterwards.

I completely understand. That unpleasant aftertaste usually happens because the oil has oxidised, it has gone rancid. Eskimo-3 is incredibly stable. It contains a unique antioxidant complex (often called Pufanox) that keeps the oil fresh.

I am delighted to let you know that with Eskimo-3, the fishy burp is virtually non-existent. It's clean, fresh, and palatable.

Superior Absorption

Another reason I give it the thumbs up is the science behind the structure. Eskimo-3 delivers EPA and DHA in their natural triglyceride form. Many cheaper supplements process the oil into an "ethyl ester" form to concentrate it artificially, but this makes it harder for the body to absorb.

By keeping the oil in its natural triglyceride form, Eskimo-3 mirrors the structure found in fresh fish. This ensures your body recognises it and absorbs it efficiently, meaning you get more benefit from every drop.

Beyond the Heart: Expanding on the Benefits

Most people know Omega-3 is good for the heart. It supports healthy triglyceride levels and contributes to overall cardiovascular wellbeing. But the benefits extend far beyond your ticker. Let's look at two areas where I see these oils working wonders: Inflammation and Mental Health.

Inflammation and Joint Health

Inflammation is your body's natural response to injury, but chronic inflammation is like a slow-burning fire that can lead to stiffness, joint pain, and reduced mobility.

EPA, found abundantly in Eskimo-3, helps to support a healthy inflammatory balance. Think of it as a cooling agent. For those of you  who enjoy running, hiking, or just want to keep up with your grandchildren without their knees complaining, Omega-3s are fantastic.

It helps to maintain joint comfort and flexibility. If you feel creaky in the mornings, increasing your intake of these essential fats can provide significant relief, helping to lubricate the joints from the inside out.

Mental Health and Focus

Did you know that your brain is approximately 60% fat? It needs the right kind of fat to function correctly.

I often describe Omega-3s as brain food. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function. We see a lot of people coming in feeling a bit foggy, struggling to concentrate at work, or just feeling a bit low.

Research suggests that Omega-3s may support mood regulation. While it is not a cure-all, ensuring your brain is well-nourished is a fundamental step in supporting mental wellness. It helps with cell-to-cell communication in the brain, which can translate to better focus, improved memory, and a general sense of relaxed alertness.

For students studying for exams or professionals facing burnout, I always suggest checking your Omega-3 intake. It supports the brain's ability to handle stress and stay sharp.

How to Read the Bottle: A Quick Guide

Standing in front of a shelf of supplements can be overwhelming. Numbers, ratios, and percentages can make your head spin. Here is a simple guide on how to read an Omega-3 label so you know exactly what you are getting.

Don't just look at Total Fish Oil A capsule might say 1000mg Fish Oil, but that doesn't mean you are getting 1000mg of the active ingredients. You need to turn the bottle over and look at the Nutritional Information panel.

Look for EPA and DHA These are the numbers that matter. You want to add the EPA and DHA numbers together.

  • Example: If a capsule has 1000mg of oil, but only 180mg EPA and 120mg DHA, you are only getting 300mg of the good stuff. The rest is just filler oil.

Check the Ratio Depending on your health goals, you might want a different ratio:

  • High EPA: Best for inflammation, heart health, and mood support.
  • High DHA: Best for pregnancy (baby's brain development), breastfeeding, and supporting vision and memory in older adults.
  • Balanced: Eskimo-3 generally offers a natural balance that supports overall health effectively.

Serving Size Always check how many capsules you need to take to get the dose listed. Sometimes a serving is 3 or 4 capsules. This is why I often love the liquid forms-one teaspoon can sometimes equal a whole handful of capsules!

Finding Your Perfect Match: Forms of Eskimo-3

One of the things I appreciate about Eskimo-3 is that they understand one size does not fit all. They offer a range of formats to suit your lifestyle.

Liquid

This is my personal favourite.

Why choose it: It is the most cost-effective way to get a high dose. One teaspoon provides a substantial amount of EPA and DHA compared to a single capsule.

Taste: It comes in lemon or lime flavours that mask the fish taste beautifully. You can take it off the spoon, or stir it into a yogurt or smoothie. It's incredibly easy.

Convenient Capsules

Why choose them: Perfect for travel or for those who simply prefer not to deal with oil. They are easy to swallow and great for keeping in your desk drawer at work so you never forget.

Eskimo-3 Kids

Getting fish oil into children can be a battle, but it is so important for their growing brains and immune systems. Eskimo-3 Kids is formulated specifically for their needs, often adding Vitamin D and E.

Liquid: Comes in a Tutti-Frutti  or an orange flavor that kids actually accept.

Chewable: These are soft, chewable jellies that taste like treats. They are a massive hit with parents because the kids ask for them! They are fantastic for supporting school performance and concentration.

The Proof is in the Pudding

You don't just have to take my word for it. Eskimo-3 is a staple in the Natural Health Store because our customers keep coming back for it.

I recently spoke to a customer, Mary, who started taking the liquid oil for her stiff knees. She told me, "I didn't think it would make much difference, but after a month, I realized I was walking down the stairs without holding the rail. It's the only thing I've changed."

Another customer, a busy dad, started giving the chewables to his son who was struggling to settle in school. He mentioned that while it wasn't a magic wand, the teachers had noticed a "calmer, more ready-to-learn" attitude.

These stories are why we do what we do. It's not about miracles; it's about giving the body the tools it needs to function at its best.

A Note on Safety

While Omega-3s are a natural food supplement, we always advocate for safety and responsibility.

Blood Thinners: If you are taking blood-thinning medication (like Warfarin or Heparin), you must consult your doctor before starting fish oils, as they have a natural blood-thinning effect.

Pregnancy: Omega-3 is wonderful for pregnancy, but always check with your healthcare provider or ask us for the specific pregnancy-safe formulations to ensure you are getting the right balance for you and your baby.
