Natural Solutions for Everyday Ailments

Apple Cider Vinegar Help for Arthritis

Every day we get asked for natural solutions for things like pain, earache, headaches, and warts and over the years I have been told of many natural remedies that our customers used for these everyday ailments.

One of the first natural cures I learned about was the “apple cider vinegar cure”. This is used to help with aches, pain and stiffness. I clearly remember a customer telling me about it almost 20 years ago now. You simply add one tablespoon of cider vinegar, one teaspoon of molasses, and one teaspoon of good quality local honey to boiling water and sip. He drank this every morning, and said it was fantastic. He had less discomfort, stiffness, and pain, and swore by it. We have shared this remedy over the years and like him, many found it to be very helpful in relieving pain and discomfort.

Apple Cider Vinegar has some anti-inflammatory properties and contains minerals like potassium. Deficiency in such minerals might lead to cramps or muscle pain.

Clove Bud Oil for Toothaches

For toothache, Clove Bud Essential Oil is a go to for many. My older brother told me that he had first heard about it in the film Marathon Man over 30 years ago. If you saw the film, you’ll know what he is talking about! Clove Bud Oil has been traditionally used for painful toothache. Clove Bud Oil contains Eugenol which acts as a natural anaesthetic, numbing the affected area temporarily and providing relief from the sharp pain of a toothache. Always use it diluted.

Soak a cotton pad in water diluted with Clove Bud oil and bite down on the pad for some pain relief. This is reminding me of the Clove Rock sweets that I often bought on the way back from school. They don't quite have the same effect on your teeth but I wouldn't mind one right now all the same! If you are not familiar with these sweets they were red and white chunks of rock that were flavoured with a strong taste of clove oil.

Natural Remedy for Headaches

Headaches are a common problem. They can be difficult to treat as there are many reasons why you have a headache. They could be caused by stress, tension and anxiety. A cold or flu. Food intolerance could be a trigger. Fluctuating hormones can be a factor too. Knowing the cause can help you find a solution. Sometimes it's as simple as drinking more water to avoid dehydration which is a common cause of headaches.

In the meantime a simple thing you could try is to dab a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil on the temples. This may help, I used to always get headaches associated with stress, and using Lavender Essential Oil has in the past helped relieve the pain for me. Do a patch test first for sensitivity just to be sure.

There is some evidence, particularly from animal studies, that suggests lavender oil may have direct analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. Lavender also has anti-inflammatory and relaxation properties.

Or if you prefer, you could try taking a supplement of magnesium malate. It may be a good form to try for headaches that are associated with stress or tension.

Magnesium plays a role in many physiological processes, including muscle contraction, nerve function, and the production of both protein and energy. Some studies have suggested that magnesium deficiencies might be linked to migraines and other types of headaches. Supplementation can potentially correct this deficiency, which may, in turn, help reduce the frequency or severity of headaches.

Natural Help for Earaches

Lavender essential oil will come in handy too for earaches. You can use it neat in this instance or dilute it in olive oil, massage it behind your ears a couple of times a day for pain relief. If the pain is because of a build up of wax you could try ear candling. Ear Candles are used for general ear hygiene, plus they promote the removal of impurities and excess earwax. The Otosan Ear Cone or candle as some people call it, is a natural, practical, safe and effective device, which, through beneficial heat and a chimney effect, helps to eliminate impurities and excess earwax from the ear. It is recommended that you do both ears even if only one is blocked for optimum effect.

Use some ear drops in advance of using the ear cones to soften the wax for a few days before using. If these simple measures don't work have a chat with your GP as you may need a specialist who deals with ear problems.

Garlic For Immune Support

A clove of garlic a day can help support immunity. Garlic has been found to have antimicrobial effects against various bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Its primary compound, allicin (which is formed when garlic is crushed or chopped), is responsible for many of its antimicrobial qualities.

Many customers use garlic on a regular basis and wouldn't go without it. They will always tell me how good they find garlic for helping to keep well. But when it comes to garlic some of you might prefer to take it in capsule form, Solgar Garlic is an option for you to try.
You could try a garlic cure externally to help get rid of warts. To make the concoction, place three cloves of garlic in a small jar with olive oil for three days. After this time use a cotton ear bud to dab some of the garlic oil onto the wart morning and evening. Cover if you can and repeat daily. I used this mixture on a cluster of warts that my son had on his foot when he was only 5 or 6. It worked brilliantly and quite quickly too. I was delighted with it. It has a very strong smell, so while I am saying use it twice a day you might not manage this. Once a day is worth a try.

I hope these simple natural tips can help keep you well.
