Who doesn’t like a slice of cake, especially one that can help your hormone balance? That's a good cake, right? Recipes for such HRT cakes are many and have been around for some time and they are very useful for women who want to increase their intake of plant phytoestrogens. All ingredients provide a rich source of plant estrogens, in addition, the golden flax seeds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds all provide essential omega oils important to hormonal health. Ginger helps the digestive process and absorption of nutrients. If you can find organic ingredients, so much the healthier.

    1 PEOPLE

  • 100 gm soya flour

  • 100gm wholemeal flour

  • 100gm baby oats

  • 100gm linseeds

  • 50gm sunflower seeds

  • 50gm sesame seeds

  • 50gm flaked almonds

  • One inch of fresh root ginger grated

  • 225gm raisins

  • Half teaspoon of each of the following, nutmeg, cinnamon and ground ginger

  • 425ml soya milk

  • One tablespoon malt extract or molasses

  • Add apple juice to moisten if needed

  • 50gm Pumpkin Seeds

  1. Put all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

  2. Add the soy milk and malt extract, mix well and leave to soak for about 30 minutes.

  3. Heat oven to 190 degrees or gas mark 5.

  4. Line a small loaf pan with waxed paper.

  5. If the mixture ends up too stiff-it should have a soft dropping consistency, just too thick to pour-stir in some more soy milk.

  6. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 1 1/2 hours.

  7. Test with a skewer and if it is not cooked through, allow five to ten more minutes. Turn out on a wire rack.

  8. Eat in thick slices with soy spread. One slice contains the RDA of phytoestrogens.
