NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)
There is a lot of discussion around the benefits of taking a NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) supplement. It supports a healthy lifestyle which includes eating a nutrient rich diet, getting enough exercise, having good sleep habits and trying to keep stress at bay.
Liver Health
While NAC is a wonderful liver supplement, drinking only in moderation is one of the most important elements of your liver health regime. I have personally used NAC as part of a liver cleanse over the years to improve energy and help create more balance around blood sugars and hormone health. I also recommend it to clients who have been diagnosed with fatty liver due to diet and lifestyle choices and have received positive feedback.
NAC is a great supplement to take to go the extra mile to ensure you’re fully equipped with the antioxidant support you need to maintain your overall wellness. The antioxidants that most people are familiar with include Vitamin C and E. NAC boosts one of the most powerful antioxidants in the body called Glutathione.
Respiratory Conditions
Research shows that good levels of glutathione in the body helps with reducing inflammation in the lungs and loosening mucus in the airways.
A review of multiple studies found that 600mg of NAC twice a day significantly improved lung function especially for those people suffering with COPD, asthma or chronic bronchitis.
NAC helps maintain adequate levels of glutathione within the body which is very important for our immune health. Our bodies produce its own glutathione but levels may be depleted by poor diet, pollution, toxins, stress, ageing and infections. Even partial glutathione depletion has been shown to impair immune function.
If you would like to include NAC in your supplement programme, it is important to check with your doctor or pharmacist especially if you are taking prescribed medication or have any health conditions.
